Group classes

Yeshe did not grow up in Spain or come from a Flamenco family. As a Flamenco teacher this is an advantage because he knows what is needed to learn this art from the beginning as an adult. Through formal training in Classical, Jazz and Flamenco and years of experience teaching, Yeshe articulates the essential aspects of Flamenco that remain mysterious with many Spanish teachers.

Singing: Farruca (All Levels)

January 13 - March 17

Tuesdays 7:30pm - 8:30pm PST (In-person and Zoom)

In this class we will learn to sing Farruca, a dramatic flamenco style in a minor 4 count rhythm. A very accessible style to sing, Farruca is often associated with Galicia in northern Spain. It is traditionally danced in a more masculine style, with strong lines and fiery footwork. We will learn the salida and traditional letras sung in this style as well as the various palmas patterns to accompany this exciting form. Registration for this class includes the opportunity to sing and play palmas for the Farruca dance class that happens right before this class from 6pm-7:20pm. There will also be an opportunity to sing Farruca at the student showcase on June 6th.

Guitar: Soleá for Baile II (Intermediate)

January 13 - March 17

Tuesdays 6:15pm - 7:15pm PST (In-person and Zoom)

This class is a continuation of the Soleá for Baile class from the fall. Picking up with the accompaniment of the escobilla, we will learn classic patterns and variations and practice them in class with live dancers. We will learn the transition to bulerías, how to mark the rhythm, accompany letras, a falseta, and to close the whole Soleá with flair! This is a great opportunity to develop our playing in bulerías por arriba (in the E position), which is different from por medio in both the left and right hand approach. There will be an opportunity to perform Soleá in the student showcase on June 6th.
